Altair’s cellular and GPS chipsets are the heart of a range of radio modules from different vendors. F3 works with all of the module vendors as well as with Altair directly to create customized wireless products for a wide range of customers horizontally across market needs.

Pre-existing durable medical equipment

This customer wanted to add cellular communications to a medical device used at home for treating migraine headaches. This allows them to more successfully document usage for insurance payment for the product. We added a Sierra Wireless (now Semtech) HL7800 module with Altair’s ALT1250 chipset as well as Taoglas antennas to the product while minimizing the impact to the rest of the system and limiting the need for FDA retesting and certification expenses.

Fully device level certified Mini PCIe card (GotRad Cell cracker)

This customer wanted a fully carrier certified mPCIe module with an M1 class cellular radio to allow adding high value, low cost connectivity to laptops, industrial PCs and edge computing devices. We created the entire product, production testers and managed all certifications. This product is based on the Semtech HL7800 module with Altair’s ALT1250 chipset.

Battery powered rotating machine monitor

This customer already had a BlueTooth connected sensor monitoring large pumps, motors and similar industrial equipment. This monitoring allows predictive failure analysis for the machine to avoid expensive and dangerous catastrophic failures and related system downtime. They asked if we could do an extensive power analysis to understand if the HL7800 cellular module and Altair’s ALT1250 chipset could meet their product’s run-time requirements with the battery they had available in the existing product. We did that power analysis and as the HL7800 was able to meet that need, we helped the customer’s internal engineering team implement the hardware and firmware to develop the product.

F3 has existing hardware and firmware IP that we reuse on new product developments to get your device to production as quickly and efficiently as possible. We often say, we don’t do research and development. We do product development using known technologies and reliable processes to accomplish your business goals. These chipsets generally work the same way across different module vendors, but each implementation has its own unique factors. This can be a focus on sleep or connected power consumption, it could be the ability to run application software on the module itself, or it could involve location technologies like GPS, cell network or WiFi. These products have extensive features around the needs of connected devices allowing us to create custom solutions with extensive capabilities, low unit cost and huge value.
